Dance Who is dancing and why? Are they happy or feeling awkward? What’s the occasion? Or is it a metaphorical dance...dancing around the truth, dancing around something that needs to be said? Or is someone being led a right merry dance? 16 February 2021 Art class The same people meet every week to paint or draw, but what are they drawing and what is their motivation for honing their craft? And are there hidden secrets between the students and the teacher - and who is the teacher? 16 March 2021 Through the window This story is all about windows...is someone looking out or looking in? What have they seen? Or perhaps it’s a metaphorical window such as the window to a soul or a glimpse into another world...or even a window of opportunity? Once it’s gone, it’s gone... 20 April 2021 My life Everyone’s favourite topic is themselves, so here’s our opportunity to write our autobiography! The whole thing or just an excerpt, maybe? Or perhaps we would like to speculate on what might have happened if we had chosen a different path? 18 May 2021 The dreamer There’s always one – the person with their head in the clouds. Are they imagining a better life for themselves or are they simply asleep? And is it the sort of dream that crosses over into reality, or is it a nightmare from which they cannot wake? 15 June 2021 Apricot dawn A person called Dawn who likes apricots? Or what the rising sun looks like? Perhaps it’s a code word, or a clue in a cryptic crossword, or a misheard but crucial command? Make your own interpretation – the further fetched, the better! 20 July 2021 Win at any cost We’re taught that it’s the taking part that counts, not the winning, but is it really so? And what’s the competition – a business deal, a sporting event, a love-rival? What will your character do to win, and does their victory make them happy? 17 August 2021 Words seen in a mirror Now, this really is an intriguing topic. Are they words that appear in mirror-writing or have they been scrawled in steam, to be discovered later? Or is it an event that is being seen as if in a rear-view mirror? Only you can decide. 21 September 2021 Beneath the cliffs A day out at the beach, maybe? Or is there a secret tunnel through the cliffs to admit a secret person or cargo? Or perhaps someone is abseiling and they, or the people below, are at risk from a rock fall. 19 October 2021 Garden Centre A trip to the garden centre is never dull. Is your character a disenchanted employee plotting mischief, or a frustrated customer who can’t find what they want? Or maybe there are exotic plants for sale, or mischievous goings-on in the sheds? 16 November 2021 Traffic jam These are never fun but what has caused this particular jam? An overturned lorry or something more unusual? Who is waiting in the jam, where are they going and what effect will the delay have? It could be a real ‘sliding doors’ moment! 21 December 2021 Poppies Are they flowers or weeds, natural or man-made? Beautiful yet fragile, they contain a very addictive substance. Is your main character like that, or have they met someone with those characteristics who they can’t leave alone, despite the risks? |
